Welcome to Ohakune "Where Adventure Begins". Those are the words that'll greet you as you enter from the south, by the famous giant carrot. That's where you'll find our home, just a short walking distance from the beginning of adventure and small stroll into town for hot coffee, good food and a nightlife that punches above its weight.
Position yourself here for your Ruapehu ski escape, do the famous Tongariro Crossing or rent a bike and smash some tracks. Your adventure begins here.
You'll feel right at home here. This house has everything you need to relax in comfort after a day hiking, skiing or biking. The spacious open plan living and dining areas are all within reach of the modern kitchen, making it really easy to gather your friends for a memorable time.
We've got this new fandangled wifi lock system, so we'll give you your own unique code for the duration of your stay. If that fails, we've got a backup key in a lockbox - so don't worry, you'll get inside.
We have covered parking for one vehicle and enough space for another uncovered. We also include free wifi internet and you're welcome to use Netflix on the Apple TV during your stay to binge watch a show or two.
As much as you'd enjoy me hanging around, We live in Auckland and won't be here. But we are always just a message away and can deal with anything remotely.
Ohakune is a cute ski town, but don't be fooled, it has a lot to offer all year round. From mountain biking to stunning nature walks and hiking the Tongariro Crossing. You'll have plenty to keep you occupied for a relaxing retreat or action packed escape.
Depends on your walking speed and how cold your toes are in the winter season, it shouldn't take you long to get into town. A couple of minutes by car or 15 - 20mins walk via the famous Ohakune Carrot. A perfect opportunity to get a selfie or seven.
For now, all heating and cooking are electric, including the hot water. This means if you're part of a large group the hot water could run out. We suggest you keep showers short and space them apart.
Jason N.Cozy, comfortable and close to town, not to mention quiet. My friends and I did the Tongariro crossing and had a great time staying at Ohakune-Matata.April 2017
Louise G.Our stay was excellent. The home was well appointed, comfortable and stylish. After tramping all day it was great to be able to cook a healthy meal and sit back and watch a few movies in front of the flicking gas fire. We loved it!April 2017
Jess P.My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay even though we were unable to do the Tongariro Crossing (which is what we had travelled for). We'll be back again next year to try the Crossing and we wouldn't hesitate to book here again. Quick and accurate communication was what we appreciated the most; especially when we left something behind. Fantastic customer service, above and beyond. Thank you again.May 2017
Sheryl N.Would highly recommend this house. Very clean and had everything you would need for a very comfortable stay. A nice easy walk to the town where you can enjoy one of the many places to have a meal/drink or whatever you are wanting.May 2017
Andrew E. (New Zealand)Well appointed comfortable place close to RuapehuJuly 2017
Ahmed E. (New Zealand)We were on a road trip and stayed at Ohakune-Mayada on our way North. We enjoyed the place a lot during our stay and decided to go back a couple of days later on our way South. We definitely recommend this place.July 2017
Brett R.Great place to stay for a skiing weekend or week up the mountain. Modern, clean & tidy with a reasonable kitchen. We had a great time.August 2017
Novia y. (New Zealand)Cosy but milk is not provided.August 2017
Sue D.Was an awesome place to stay with a group consisting of 3 couples and a 2 year old. Cosy, warm house with plenty of room for all of us with an easy walk to the town and the availability of WiFi was a bonus. I appreciated the customer experience received and would definitely stay again - maybe in summer when we can make use of the BBQ and deck.August 2017
Z. (New Zealand)Thank you so much! The chalet was everything we needed. We travelled down from Auckland with 4 adults and 2 kids and after a long drive it was relieving to arrive at the chalet, it was everything we needed. The electric fire place and heat pump quickly warmed the place, the drying room was great for all our snow gear and the kids loved a bath after a day on the slopes. The beds were super comfy and the rooms were all a decent size to get around. The chalet is a great base for Whakapapa slopes, only a 45min drive but like all of NZ it's scenic so the time flies. We will definitely keep this as our go to when we return next season.August 2017
Christina B.Contemporary property equipped with all modern appliances to provide for pleasure and entertainment. Convenient distance to town and the mountain. Clean and well maintained, as shown and described. Thank you Jason & Kohey!September 2017

kyle A. (New Zealand)What a lovely, well equipped, comfortable, modern house. We enjoyed our stay very very much. Communication was excellent and the house exceeded our expectations. Will 100% stay again (be back same time next year) and recommend to friends. Thank you very much.October 2017
Tom N. (New Zealand)We had a great time, very comfortable stay :-)November 2017
Markus B. (Switzerland)Good and fastJanuary 2018
Janet D. (New Zealand)A private, well equipped home. Comfortable beds and spacious rooms. Good satellite TV and plenty of card and board games plus a small selection of novels. Nice sunny deck in lovely garden with small view of Ruapehu. Covered Parking. Secure Sport gear storage at back of car port. A previous tenant had turned off the heater's internal controls so we couldn't turn it on at the wall. One call to Jason and we managed to sort it. The comfy large brown sofas have seen better days, but other than that we really liked this modern family home.February 2018
Leikyn P. (New Zealand)Spend the night at Ohakune-Matata. Fantastic home with beautiful decor. Great value for money. The only thing was the flakey leather couches. Material has come away on most parts of them which is unpealing and messy looking. House would look better without them. Other than that minor detail - it’s GREAT!!!June 2018
Jason N.This is my third time at Ohakune-Matata, as you can tell this is my go to holiday home. Fantastic host, 100% communication from beginning til end. Love the jets on the bath too. Great feature. Plenty of room to bring your friends, or leave them behind if you want a romantic weekend away with just your best friend. Would recommend to all.June 2018
Kelly E. (Australia)Awesome place. Had everything. Definitely stay again and reccomendJune 2018

Emma H.Lovely home! We all enjoyed our stay here in ohakune. Everything was greatJanuary 2019
Susan S.Good location and nice house. However the bathrooms were uncleans (mold in the showers and dust everywhere) and there was a foul smell in the under sink cupboards when was very unpleasant. This is disappointing given the massive cleaning fee of $80. For that fee I would expect the home to be very clean. Having the cleaner waiting outside the property at (9:40 also made us feel we were getting rushed out when check out was not until 10).January 2019
Nicola P. (New Zealand)Immaculate and comfortable.January 2019
Hsiuying L. (Taiwan)House was clean and comfortable. It was everything we needed.January 2019
Rachael P.Really nice house, decorated well. Fully equipped with everything you need for a comfortable holiday. Warm, comfortable beds, walkable to town, washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, Netflix, WiFi, heating/aircon, spa bath, two off street parks. The house was spotless, easy to dispose of rubbish, all cleaning products available to keep place clean while there, toiletries in bathroom. We really enjoyed our stay, and will book again!February 2019
Maree L. (New Zealand)amazing place. So cozy and really helpful hosts.February 2019
HYUNJUNG P. (New Zealand)Everything was perfect. I'll definitely stay again :)March 2019
Jian Z.Everything is perfect other than the bedrooms are a bit too small.March 2019
Summer C.A great home with all facilities provided and all in excellent clean condition. A perfect location for both summer and winter outdoor activities!March 2019
Tu C. (New Zealand)We had a family member to visit who was not very well and rather than our family of 6 crowd their surroundings, we decided to book a motel. It is our first time to Ohakune and we had travelled from Australia. I chose this property based on the capacity and price. Best decision and choice I have made for accom in ages. Highly recommend this property. Convenient, great price, modern facilities, accessible, clean and homely!March 2019
